Also known as Sigillaria. A huge fern related to scale trees that flourished in the Carboniferous Period. It belongs to the Lycopodidae family and is one of the plants that formed the source of coal at that time. It grows to several tens of meters in height and has clusters of long, thin leaves near the tips of its branches, but as it grows, the leaves fall off, leaving vertical rows of hexagonal or horizontal diamond-shaped marks. → Related topic: Coal Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
