Japanese: 廟会 - びょうえ（英語表記）miào huì

In China, temples, Taoist temples, and shrines are collectively called miao, and are open to the public for a few days to celebrate the birth of the deity or Buddha enshrined there, and a festival is held. This is called a miao-e, and is equivalent to a Japanese festival. During this period, the precincts and approach to the miao become lively with street vendors and performers targeting pilgrims, and the area becomes a place of entertainment for the local citizens. The market is called a "fragrance market" or "miao-ichi." During this period, religious ceremonies are performed by temple monks and Taoist priests, pilgrims offer incense, and religious groups and occupational associations connected to the miao participate in and dedicate plays and other performances.

中国において，寺院，道観，神祠を総称して廟とよび，そこにまつられる神仏の誕辰を記念して若干日間は一般に開放され，祭礼が行われる。これを廟会とよび，日本の縁日にあたる。その期間は廟の境内や参道に参詣客をあてこんだ露店商人や大道芸人が集まってにぎわい，市民行楽の場所となる。その市（いち）を〈香市〉〈廟市〉という。期間中は寺僧や道士によって法儀が執行され，参詣者が進香(焼香)するほか，その廟に縁のある信仰団体や職業組合が参加して演劇などを奉納する。
