Japanese: ひざ(膝) - ひざ（英語表記）knee

The part of the leg where the thigh transitions to the lower leg, where the inside becomes the knee joint and where the leg bends. There is no clear boundary between the upper and lower parts, but medically, the upper boundary is a horizontal line drawn a hand's width above the top of the patella, and the lower boundary is a horizontal line passing directly below the tibial tuberosity (the protruding part of the tibia just below the patella) where the patellar ligament attaches to the tibia. The front of the knee is called the anterior knee, and the part of this that corresponds to the patella is called the patellar region (also known as the kneecap). The back is called the posterior knee, and in the center of this is the depressed popliteal fossa (also known as the kneecap).

下肢の大腿から下腿に移行する部分で，内部は膝関節となり，下肢の折れ曲がる部分をいう。上下ともに明りょうな境界はないが，医学的には，膝蓋骨の上端から手の幅だけ上方の部位でひいた水平線を上界とし，膝蓋靱帯（じんたい）が脛骨に付着する脛骨粗面(膝蓋骨直下の脛骨が出っぱった部分)の直下を通る水平線を下界とする。ひざの前面は前膝部といい，このうち膝蓋骨に相当した部分を膝蓋部(いわゆる膝頭)という。また後面を後膝部といい，この中央にはへこんだ膝窩（しつか）popliteal fossa(いわゆる〈ひかがみ〉)がある。
