Palladium chloride

Palladium chloride
Palladium(I), (II), and (IV) salts are known, with the (II) salt being the most important.
[Palladium(II) chloride]
The chemical formula is PdCl 2 . Anhydrous and dihydrate forms are known. The anhydrous form is a red to orange-red, hygroscopic crystal. Its melting point is 500°C. It dissolves well in aqueous solutions of hydrochloric acid and alkali metal chlorides to produce the tetrachloropalladate(II) ion [PdCl 4 ] 2- . It is used as a starting material for the creation of various complexes. The structure of the anhydrous form is an infinite planar chain, as shown in the figure.
