In a society, various economic institutions and mechanisms exist in various aspects such as production, distribution, consumption, finance, and finance. These do not exist in a disorderly manner, but exist in a coherent manner, and all of them form an organic interconnection that forms the basic pattern of economic activity in that society. The complex of social institutions and mechanisms that connect people when they engage in economic activities in a society is called the economic system.

ある社会には，いろいろな経済制度･経済機構が，生産，流通，消費，金融，財政などいろいろな面において存在している。そして，それらはあれこれと無秩序にあるものではなく，互いに整合性をもって存在し，すべてが一つの有機的な相互連関をなしてその社会における経済活動の基本的な型(パターン)を形づくっている。そのようなものとして，人々が社会において経済活動を営む際にとり結んでいる社会的な諸制度･機構の複合体を，経済体制という。
