The leader of a Bavarian poaching gang. Also known as Hiesel. His real name was Mathias Klostermayer. The son of a poor herdsman, he became a forest ranger on Jesuit land and then a farmer's servant, but he excelled at shooting and began poaching. In 1761, he joined a poaching gang to avoid conscription into the army. He then formed his own gang, and, with the support of farmers suffering from the damage caused by birds and animals, fought against the pursuit of gamekeepers and the army. In 1771, he was captured again and sentenced to death by smashing. His activities formed one of the backgrounds for the creation of Schiller's The Robbers.

バイエルンの密猟団の首領。ヒーゼルHieselとも呼ばれる。本名はクロスターマイヤーMathias Klostermayer。貧しい牧夫の子で，イエズス会所領の森番手伝いから農家の下男となるが，射撃に優れ，密猟を始める。1761年軍隊への徴募を逃れ密猟団に参加。次いでみずから団を組織し，鳥獣の害に苦しむ農民の支持のもとに，猟場の番人や軍隊の追跡と戦う。71年再度捕らえられ車裂きの刑に処せられた。その活動は，シラーの《群盗》成立の一つの背景をなす。
