1861‐1907 A Belgian poet who wrote in French. In 1886, together with his comrades Maeterlinck and others, he made his debut on the poetry scene with the small Paris magazine La Pléide, and later collaborated with Mockel's magazine Baronie, which became the center of the Belgian Symbolist movement. After publishing his mystical prose play The Sniffers in Liège in 1889, he moved to Brussels and earned his doctorate in philosophy. In 1998, he published his first collection of poems, A Fleeting Vision, and in 1904, he published The Song of Eve in the magazine Mercure de France.
