Wang Zhen - English spelling: Wáng Zhēng

Japanese: 王禎 - おうてい（英語表記）Wáng Zhēng

A native of Dongping, Shandong, Yuan Dynasty, China. Date of birth and death unknown. His pen name was Boshan. A dedicated farmer well versed in agricultural techniques, he designed and manufactured his own farm tools and worked to popularize them. He compiled the first comprehensive agricultural technique book in China covering both North and South China. He achieved great success as the magistrate of Jingde and Fengcheng counties in Anhui, and in the 22 volumes (or 36 volumes) of the "Nongshu" published in 1313 (the 2nd year of the Huangqing era), he left detailed records on farm work, cultivation methods, and farm tools, along with 273 illustrations. This is known as the "Wang Zhen Nongshu." However, this book also serves as a historical compilation of agricultural techniques, and it cannot be said that all of the content represents the level of technology at the time.

中国，元の山東東平の人。生没年不詳。字は伯善。農業技術に通じた篤農家で，農具をみずから設計製作して普及に努め，南北中国にわたる総合的な農業技術書を，中国で最初に編纂した。安徽旌徳県，豊城県の長官として治績を挙げ，1313年(皇慶2)に刊行した《農書》22巻(あるいは36巻)では，農作業，栽培法，農具に関する詳細な記録を，273幅の図と共に残している。いわゆる《王禎農書》である。ただこの書は，農業技術に関する歴史的な集大成という意味も併せもっているのであって，すべてが当時の技術水準を示しているとはいえない。
