A mountain range on the border between Shiga and Gifu prefectures. The highest peak is Mt. Ibuki. It is mainly made up of granite and Paleozoic sandstone and slate, with fault cliffs to the east and west, and the Suzuka Mountains facing the Sekigahara Narrows to the south. To the northwest, it stretches out to Mt. Kanakuso and Mt. Yokoyama, and continues on to the Fukui prefecture border. Ibuki Prefectural Natural Park is centered around Mt. Ibuki, and includes a campground, ski resort, the Sekigahara battlefield, and castle ruins. [Seiichi Takahashi] [Reference] |This is the site of the Battle of Sekigahara in September 1600 (Keicho 5). In the area around the battlefield, remains include the remains of the camps of warlords who participated in the battle, including Tokugawa Ieyasu and Ishida Mitsunari, as well as the graves of soldiers who died in battle.
