A North Indian flute. Made of bamboo, it has one end blocked and a row of finger holes. It is also called the benu or banshin. It comes in a variety of sizes and numbers of finger holes, but is generally longer than South Indian flutes (the kural being the most representative) and has a mellow, low tone. It is used in both classical and folk music. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
