Japanese: 原[村] - はら

A village in Suwa County, central eastern Nagano Prefecture. It occupies a plateau area called Manaitahara that spreads out on the western foot of the Yatsugatake Mountains. At the eastern end, on the border with Chino City, is Amida-dake (2,805m), which forms part of the Yatsugatake Mountains. The area is part of the Yatsugatake Chushin Highlands Quasi-National Park. It is known for its concentration of pensions and villas, and is a popular summer resort. Highland vegetables and flowers are also grown here. The southwestern part, close to the Suwa Minami IC on the Chuo Expressway, has good transport links and is home to an industrial park. The western part is home to the Aku ruins, the remains of a Jomon period settlement. Area: 43.26 ^km2 . Population: 7,573 (2010).

長野県中東部，諏訪郡の村。八ヶ岳の西麓に広がる俎原(まないたはら)とよばれる高原地帯を占め，東端の茅野市境には八ヶ岳の一角をなす阿弥陀岳（2805m）があり，一帯は八ヶ岳中信高原国定公園に属する。ペンションや別荘地が集中することで知られ，特に夏場は避暑地としてにぎわう。高原野菜や花卉栽培なども行われる。中央自動車道の諏訪南ICに近い南西部は交通が至便で，工業団地が立地。西部には縄文時代の集落遺跡である阿久遺跡がある。43.26km²。7573人（2010）。
