Among the Christian books printed by the Japan Jesuits from 1591 to 1614 (Tensho 19 to Keicho 19), were liturgical books, doctrinal books, and training books. The first edition, printed in 1691, was Dochirinakiristan (Dochirinakiristan), a catechism of Christian doctrine, and the Sacaramenta Compendium, a liturgical book for churches. For monks, there were Spiritual Exercises and Auspicious Words. Books of faith and training include The Master of the Hides, Excerpts from the Works of Santos, Giya do Pecador, Spiritual Exercises, and Contents Mundi, which contain quotations from the Bible and Sacred Tradition, as well as abridged translations of European devotional books.
