Atriplex tatarica (synonym: beach thrush) - Atriplex tatarica; orach
An annual plant of the Chenopodiaceae family. It is found in cool-temperate coastal sandy areas from central Honshu northward, Hokkaido, Sakhalin, and the Kuril Islands. The entire plant is glabrous, and the stem is erect and branched. The leaves are triangular-lanceolate, pointed at the base, with coarse tooth-like serrations on the edges. The upper leaves gradually narrow and become entire. The leaves are thick. From late summer to autumn, the ends of the branches bear small pale green florets in clusters, which gather together to form spikes. The plant is monoecious. The female flowers are perianthless and surrounded by two bracts. The male flowers consist of a calyx and five stamens.
