This hat is made from thin braided Sanadahimo strings made from torn and bleached young leaves of the Panama grass, which is native to Central and South America. It is soft and durable, making it a high-quality summer hat. It is white or cream in color, and is mainly produced in Ecuador and Peru. The name comes from the fact that it was traded in Panama. It spread from being worn by British people living in the tropics. In Japan, straw hats were popular in the 1880s, and hats tended to be a must-have for men when going out, so it became widespread from the 1890s. Panama hats are expensive and there are quantitative restrictions, so there are many imitations made from synthetic fibers and other materials.
