al-Ḥasā (English spelling)

Japanese: ハサー（英語表記）al‐Ḥasā

A region in the central eastern Arabian Peninsula that is now part of Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. Located between the Dakhna Desert and the Persian Gulf, it is home to many springs and oases. Since the discovery of oil in 1938, the coastal areas have become one of the world's leading oil-producing regions. Inland, oasis agriculture produces date palms, and nomadic pastoralism is also practiced, but in recent years, large-scale irrigation has led to the development of farmland. Historically, Hufuf was the central city, but in 1953, Dammam became the capital of the Eastern Province.

アラビア半島中東部の地域で，現在はサウジアラビアの〈東部州〉となっている。ダフナー砂漠とペルシア湾の間に位置し，泉やオアシスが多い。沿岸部は1938年の石油発見以来，世界有数の産油地帯となっている。内陸部はオアシス農業でナツメヤシを産し，遊牧も行われるが，近年は大規模な灌漑による農地開拓も進められている。歴史的にはフフーフal‐Hufūfが中心都市であったが，53年，東部州都はダンマームに置かれた。
