"Kujihongigengi" - The Mysterious Meaning of Ancient Matters

...The family tree of the Urabe clan includes many later additions, and much of his background is unknown, but he became a monk at a young age and became a disciple of Kunin, and served the Tendai zasu Jigan Sojo, who was highly trusted by Emperor Go-Daigo, and was appointed as a hoin. As the momentum for overthrowing the shogunate grew at the end of the Kamakura period, he became acquainted with the priest of the Outer Shrine of Ise, Watarai (Higaki) Tsunemasa, and was influenced by Ise Shinto. He wrote works such as "Kamikairon", "Kujihongigengi", "Kujihongimonku", "Daishuhifuyobun", "Shingigenyozu", "Shinnoryakumonzu", "Kogoruiyoshu", "Tenchijingishinchinyoki", and "Toyoashiharashinpuwaki". His Shinto theory applied the theories of Tendai teachings to the development of the teachings of Ise Shinto, and in his main work, "Kujiki Gengi," he explained the theory of the origin of gods and the origin of Buddha, and argued that the Emperor is a being descended from the original gods of the universe, with heaven as his father and earth as his mother. He also developed a political theory of Shinto and explained imperial virtue, the imperial throne, and the sacred treasures.
