A town in Shimajiri District, Okinawa Prefecture, in the southern part of Okinawa Island. A farming area southeast of Naha City, it grows sugarcane and vegetables and produces Ryukyu Gasuri textiles. During the Ryukyu Kingdom era, it was under its direct control. In recent years, the town has become a commuter town for Naha City, and the population has increased significantly.
