A private research institute opened by Shibusawa Keizo in 1925. Initially, it collected local toys and folk tools on the second floor of Shibusawa's residence in Fukagawa, Tokyo, and was called the Attic Museum, but during World War II it was renamed the Institute for Japanese Folk Culture. In 1981 it was transferred to Kanagawa University. It has consistently collected and researched folk tools and folk materials, as well as fisheries and marine history, and published collections of essays and historical materials such as the Attic Museum Bulletin (52 volumes) and the Japanese Folk Culture Research Institute Bulletin (25 volumes). The institute has produced many notable figures, including Uno Shuhei, Miyamoto Tsuneichi, Kawaoka Takeharu, and Amino Yoshihiko. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
