Nishina Sanko

Japanese: 仁科三湖 - にしなさんこ
Nishina Sanko
A series of lakes stretching from north to south at the eastern foot of the Hida Mountain Range's Ushiro-Tateyama mountain range in northwest Nagano Prefecture. They belong to Omachi City. From north to south, there are three lakes: Lake Aoki, Lake Nakatsuna, and Lake Kizaki. The names come from the Nishina clan, who ruled this region in the Middle Ages. They are on the Itoigawa-Shizuoka Tectonic Line, and the three lakes are connected by small rivers. Lake Kizaki at the southern end is most prominent as a tourist destination, Lake Nakatsuna is a winter fishing spot, and Lake Aoki at the northern end is a fishing ground for locals. The JR Oito Line and National Route 148 run along the east side of the three lakes.
