Nansui Manyuu - Nansui Manyuu

Japanese: 南水漫遊 - なんすいまんゆう

An essay from the late Edo period. The author was a Hamamatsu Utakoku and called himself Nansui-shu of Naniwa Konan Sosatei, hence the title. The inscription on the corner reads "Kokin Kensaku." The first volume, the sequel, and the collection of selected works each contain 5 volumes and 15 books. The contents are about the happenings of Osaka, where Nansui lived. The first volume begins with the Dotonbori origins, and covers a wide range of topics, including true stories of Joruri and Kabuki, famous places, the origins of place names, gravestones, and the creation and origin of Jiutakyoku. The sequel and the collection of selected works are about Kabuki and Ningyo Joruri, respectively, and cover a wide range of topics, including the state of things inside and outside the theater, works, authors, performers, events, etc., and also include rankings, maps, messages, reviews, and signs.

江戸後期の随筆。著者は浜松歌国で，浪華江南颯々亭南水主人と号したところからきた書名である。角書に〈古今参考〉とある。初編，続編，拾遺各5巻15冊より成る。内容は南水が在住した大坂の事跡について述べたもの。初編は道頓堀濫觴（らんしよう）に始まり，浄瑠璃，歌舞伎の実話，名物，地名のいわれ，墓碑，地歌曲の成立と由来など広範囲にわたっている。続編は歌舞伎，拾遺は人形浄瑠璃に関して，広く劇場内外のようす，作品，作者，演者，出来事などに及び，番付，地図，伝書，評判記，看板なども収載している。
