Jiang Bai Li (English: Jiang Bai Li)

Japanese: 蔣百里 - しょうひゃくり（英語表記）Jiǎng Bǎi lǐ

1882‐1938
A modern Chinese soldier. Born in Haining County, Zhejiang Province. His given name was Fang Zhen, and his pen name was Baili. His pen name was Feisheng. In 1901 (the 27th year of the Guangxu era), he studied at the Japanese Military Academy. During his time there, he was inspired by the political activities of students studying abroad in Japan, and edited the magazine Zhejiang Chao to promote revolutionary ideas. After graduating in 1906, he returned to China, then studied in Germany, where he experienced military life for four years. After returning to China, he held important military positions, including as the principal of the Baoding Military Academy, and in 1920 accompanied Liang Qichao on a tour of Europe. After that, he was involved in cultural activities for a while, and wrote The History of the Renaissance of European Literature and Art.

中国，現代の軍人。浙江省海寧県の人。名は方震，百里は字。筆名は飛生。1901年(光緒27)日本の陸軍士官学校に留学，在学中，留日学生の政治活動に刺激され，雑誌《浙江潮》を編集して革命思想を鼓吹，06年卒業していったん帰国，さらにドイツに留学し4年間ドイツの軍隊生活を経験した。帰国後は保定軍官学校長など軍事関係の要職につき，20年梁啓超に随行して欧州を視察，その後しばらく文化活動に従事し，《欧洲文芸復興史》を書いた。
