Inhambane - Inhambane (English spelling)

A port city in Mozambique, southeast Africa. Located between the country's two major ports, Maputo and Sofala (formerly Beira), it is the capital of Inhambane Province (population 1,112,000, 1997). Population 52,400 (1997). It is the country's grain-producing region, producing rice, sugar, cotton, groundnuts, corn, and cashew nuts. Many people are migrant workers in the gold mines of South Africa. A railway line runs from the port to Inharime, 91 km south.

アフリカ南東部、モザンビークの港湾都市。同国の二大港マプートとソファラ（旧ベイラ）の中間に位置し、イニャンバネ州（人口111万2000。1997）の州都である。人口5万2400（1997）。同国の穀倉地帯で、米、砂糖、綿花、ラッカセイ、トウモロコシ、カシューナッツを産する。南アフリカ共和国の金鉱山への出稼ぎ者が多い。鉄道は同港から南91キロメートルのイニャリメまで通じている。
