Sword Proclamation - Tori no Senryo
Year of birth: Unknown
He was a government official and man of letters from the late 7th century to the early 8th century, and a Man'yo poet. His surname can also be written as Dori or Tori. He was from a clan of immigrants, and it seems he entered the government after studying at Daigakuryo, and his exam for civil service in 711 is included in the Keikokushu. He spent his life as a low-ranking government official, but he seems to have excelled in literature, and in 721, he was ordered by imperial decree to serve the Crown Prince (later Emperor Shomu) and be his companion after the completion of his official duties. Two poems each are included in the Kaifuso and Man'yoshu. He was also on friendly terms with Prince Nagaya. He died at the age of 59 during the Jinki era (724-29). At the time he was a Jorokui Jo (upper sixth rank) and Iyo no Jō.
