The largest lake in Central Europe, located in western Hungary. Numerous small rivers flow into the lake, and the water drains into the Danube via the Sió River on the south shore. The lake is rich in fish, and there are many vineyards on the shore. There are many tourist and health resorts on the south shore, such as Siófok, and there is a biological research institute and a geological observatory in Fonyod.
