Born: 1508. Limoges Died November 1, 1588. Paris. French humanist and poet. Born into an aristocratic family, he became a teacher early on, and taught Ronsard while working as a private tutor in Paris. In 1547 he became headmaster of the École de Cocret, and had Ronsard and Du Bellay among his students. He especially fostered an interest and taste for the Greek classics, and had a great influence on the formation of Pleiades' theory. He left behind a collection of poems, Poematica (1586).
