Toyooka [Village] - Toyooka

Japanese: 豊岡[村] - とよおか

A village in Iwata County, western Shizuoka Prefecture. Population 11,505 (1995). It is located on the east bank of the downstream Tenryu River. The Tenryu Hamanako Railway runs through it, and the town center is near Nobe Station. Rice farming, greenhouse horticulture for melons and strawberries, dairy farming, pig farming, and chicken farming are thriving in the lowlands along the Tenryu River, while tea, persimmons, and other crops are grown on the sloping land in the east. With the opening of the Hamakita Bridge over the Tenryu River in 1970, many factories, including those manufacturing musical instruments, have set up shop here. 静岡県西部，磐田郡の村。人口1万1505(1995)。天竜川下流東岸に位置する。天竜浜名湖鉄道が通り，野部駅の近くに中心市街がある。天竜川沿いの低地では米作，メロンやイチゴなどの施設園芸と酪農，養豚，養鶏が盛んで，東部の傾斜地では茶，柿などが栽培される。1970年天竜川の浜北大橋の開通により，楽器製造をはじめ多くの工場が進出した。東部の山間地に獅子ヶ鼻公園がある。【萩原毅】
