A former town in Itano District, northeastern Tokushima Prefecture. A rural area occupying the southern slope of the Sanuki Mountains and the alluvial fan of Miyagouchidani, it produces rice and tobacco, and also engages in dairy farming and livestock raising. A bus service runs from Yoshinogawa City on the opposite bank of the Yoshino River. In April 2005, it merged with Yoshino Town in Itano District, Ichiba Town in Awa District, and Awa Town to become a city, Awa City. 56.61 km2 . Population: 8,695 (2003).
