A former town in Itano District, northeastern Tokushima Prefecture. A rural area occupying the southern slope of the Sanuki Mountains and the alluvial fan of Miyagouchidani, it produces rice and tobacco, and also engages in dairy farming and livestock raising. A bus service runs from Yoshinogawa City on the opposite bank of the Yoshino River. In April 2005, it merged with Yoshino Town in Itano District, Ichiba Town in Awa District, and Awa Town to become a city, Awa City. 56.61 km2 . Population: 8,695 (2003). 徳島県北東部,板野郡の旧町。讃岐(さぬき)山脈南斜面と宮川内谷(みやごうちだに)の扇状地を占める農村地域で,米,タバコを産し,酪農・畜産も行う。吉野川対岸の吉野川市からバスが通じる。2005年4月板野郡吉野町,阿波郡市場町,阿波町と合併し市制,阿波市となる。56.61km2。8695人(2003)。
