Japanese: てんびん(天秤) - てんびん

A scale for precise measurement of mass. Usually, a pan is hung on each end of one arm, and the center of the arm is supported by a blade. The object to be weighed is placed on one pan, and a weight of known weight is placed on the other pan, and the weight is measured by balancing. Examples include double-pan balances, chemical balances, thermobalances, and microbalances.
