A former town in Minamiakita County, Akita Prefecture, occupies a sandbar that separates the Hachirogata Reservoir from the Sea of Japan, and the former main settlement, Tenno, faces the Funakoshi Channel. The current main settlement is Futada, where the Oga Line runs. In addition to rice cultivation, vegetable and fruit cultivation is also popular. Fishing is also practiced. In March 2005, it merged with Showa Town and Iidagawa Town in Minamiakita County to become a city, Katagami City. 41.51 km2 . Population 22,437 (2003).
