America's largest comprehensive chemical and textile manufacturer. Abbreviated as DuPont. Headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware. Established in Wilmington in 1915, DuPont took over the business of EI du Pont de Nemours Powder Co., a gunpowder manufacturer established in 1802 by Eleuthère Irénée du Pont de Nemours (1771-1834). With the long-term goal of reducing dependence on the gunpowder business and reinvesting profits, DuPont focused on research and development of nitrocellulose and other products using its gunpowder manufacturing know-how. It also diversified into dyes, synthetic resins, and paints through the acquisition of Harrison Brothers and Co. in 1917, Grasselli Chemical Co. in 1928, Roessler and Hasslacher Chemical Co. in 1930, and Remington Arms Company in 1933.

アメリカ最大の総合化学･繊維メーカー。略称，デュポン社。本社デラウェア州ウィルミントン。1915年，デュポンEleuthère Irénée du Pont de Nemours(1771‐1834)が1802年に設立した火薬製造会社E.I.du Pont de Nemours Powder Co.の事業を受け継ぎ，ウィルミントンに設立された。火薬事業への依存度の低下，利益の再投資という長期目標のもとで，火薬製造のノウ･ハウを生かしニトロセルロースなどの研究開発に力を注ぐとともに，17年のHarrison Brothers and Co.，28年のGrasselli Chemical Co.，30年のRoessler and Hasslacher Chemical Co.，33年のレミントン兵器会社などの買収を通じて，染料，合成樹脂，塗料などと事業を多角化していった。
