A type of shrine rank that emerged from the end of ancient times to the beginning of the Middle Ages. It seems to have been the name given to the shrine in each province that had the deepest history, was the most revered, and had the largest economic base. Ninomiya and Sannomiya were also created in succession, but these were not officially designated by the Jingikan or provincial governors. As time went on, there were cases of alternation and coexistence, and up until the early modern period, names such as Ichinomiya and Ninomiya came into existence within a certain area such as a province or a county. The Dai-Nihon-koku Ichinomiya-ki (Gunsho Ruiju Shinto Section) lists the Ichinomiya for each province and the deities enshrined there. There are also many cases where the names became the names of the areas around where shrines are located, such as Ichinomiya City in Aichi Prefecture, which is derived from the fact that Masumida Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Owari Province, is located there. → Related topics Awaka Shrine | Izushi Shrine | Kawakami Shrine | Kotono Shrine | Kotojin Shrine | Shrine | Tsubagi Shrine | Miyazu [city] | Yurahime Shrine IchinomiyaSource : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
