Died: September 30, 1955. American film actor from Paso Robles, California. Full name: James Byron Dean. After graduating from high school, he studied drama for two years at the University of California, Los Angeles, and then moved to New York at the invitation of actor James Whitmore to receive acting training. While appearing in the Broadway play The Immoralist (1954), he caught the eye of film director Elia Kazan, who cast him in the lead role of East of Eden (1955) at the age of 23. His performance as a struggling teenager brought him to stardom and he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor. In his second film, Rebel Without a Cause (1955), he played a young man disillusioned with society and with nowhere to go, and he became a revered figure as a spokesman for the young people of his generation. Just after finishing filming his third film, Giant (1956), he was involved in a head-on collision with his beloved Porsche and died instantly. He quickly became a legendary figure, and his popularity continues to this day in the 21st century.

In many British universities, the term refers to a professor or chairperson. At Oxford and Cambridge, the term refers to a fellow who oversees undergraduate students, and in this case, the junior dean is the assistant. In the United States, the dean of a college manages all educational activities and is responsible for a wide range of matters, including personnel, curriculum, student admission and graduation, budgets, and facilities. The dean of a university faculty or department is sometimes called a chairperson, dean, or chairperson, but has almost the same responsibilities as in a college, and in faculties, he or she is also responsible for coordinating guidance for graduate school admissions. The dean of a graduate school must supervise dissertations and coordinate issues that span multiple faculties, departments, and comprehensive departments such as humanities and natural sciences.
