First term - Ichigobun

Japanese: 一期分 - いちごぶん
First term - Ichigobun
〘noun〙 A form of property inheritance in the Middle Ages. From the end of the Kamakura period to the Muromachi period, when property was transferred or inherited, it was property with a special clause that it would be returned to the eldest son or future lord upon the death of the heir. It was mainly a measure to prevent a decrease in territory due to divided inheritance of land or property, and this form was often used in transfers to women, and sometimes it was extended to illegitimate children as well. The same was true for widow shares and retirement shares. It was widely seen in the transitional period from divided inheritance to single inheritance. ⇔ Permanent territory. → Eldest son system. *Irikiin documents - Document dated June 23, leap year 1349 (Sadawa 5), Shibuya Shigekatsu leaves it here: "Women should also be given one cho, one place, and one term share."
