Chin people - Chin (English spelling)

Japanese: チン族 - チンぞく(英語表記)Chin
Chin people - Chin (English spelling)
An ethnic group living in northwestern Myanmar. The population is estimated at about 1.2 million. They are closely related to the neighboring Lushai, Hakha, and Kuki peoples, and their language belongs to the Tibeto-Burman family. They form a local community through several lineages based on patrilineal descent groups. Political relationships between lineages are sometimes determined by formal marriages based on matrilineal cross-cousin marriage. They cultivate millet and rice through slash-and-burn cultivation, and raise livestock such as cows, pigs, and goats, which are symbols of wealth and prestige.
