Cilacap (English spelling)

A port town in the middle of the south coast of Java, Indonesia. Population 114,000 (1980). Facing the Indian Ocean, it is located at the mouth of the Danang and Dangar rivers, facing Kambangan Island, and protected by Cape Kalambolon at its western end. It is an excellent port, and the only one on the port-poor south coast of Java. The port also serves as a base for coastal fishing. Formerly an unhealthy area, the living environment has improved since port improvement work was carried out in the early 20th century. It is the terminus of a branch line of the railway along the south coast of Java, and is also a distribution center for goods.

インドネシア，ジャワ島南海岸中部の港町。人口11万4000(1980)。インド洋に面し，ダナン，ダンガル両河川の河口に位置し，前面にカンバンガン島をひかえ，その西端のカランボロン岬に守られる良港で，港の乏しいジャワ南海岸で唯一の港といえる。港は沿岸漁業の基地にもなっている。以前は不健康地であったが，20世紀初めに港の改良工事が行われてから居住環境も改善された。ジャワ南岸沿いの鉄道の支線の終点で，物資の集散地でもある。
