Chang Sǔng‐ŏp (English name)

A painter from the Joseon Dynasty in Korea. Born in Taewon, Chungcheong Province. His pen name was Jingyu and his pseudonym Gowon. He received no education and did not fully understand the written language, but his outstanding artistic talent led him to become a painter at the Drawing Office. He mastered the styles of various Chinese schools, from the Wu School of the Ming to the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou of the Qing, and left behind masterpieces with bold brushwork on themes such as landscapes, hydrangeas, flowers, and utensils. He was known as a heavy drinker, and has many anecdotes about him. His representative works include Pair of Scrolls of Eagle and Pheasant (Hoam Museum of Art, southern Seoul) and Three People Asking about the Year (Kansong Museum of Art, Seoul).

朝鮮，李朝時代の画家。忠清道太原の人。字は景猷，号は吾園。教育を受けられず，文字を十分に解しなかったが，すぐれた画才のゆえに図画署の画員となる。明の呉派から清の揚州八怪に至る中国の諸家の画風を習得し，山水，翎毛（れいもう），花卉（かき），器物などを主題に豪放な筆法による名作を残した。大酒家として知られ，逸話に富む。代表作は《鷲･雉子図双幅》(ソウル南郊，湖巌美術館)，《三人問年図》(ソウル，澗松美術館)など。
