Medieval Science

The term "medieval science" here refers to "medieval European science," which developed from the 3rd to the 14th centuries against the backdrop of Western Christianity and was recorded in Latin. This "medieval Latin science" can be broadly divided into an early and late period, with the great translation period of the 12th century, when academic documents from Greece and Arabia were actively translated into Latin, as the dividing line. The early period can be further divided into the "period of the church fathers" of the 3rd and 4th centuries, the "period of the Latin compilers" of the 5th to 7th centuries, the "period of the Carolingian Renaissance" of the 8th and 9th centuries, and the "period of contact with Arabia" of the 10th and 11th centuries, while the later period can be divided into the "period of the 12th century Renaissance," the "period of independence and synthesis" of the 13th century, and the "period of Galileo's pioneers" of the 14th century.
