Ise-ryu

Japanese: 伊勢流 - いせりゅう
Ise-ryu
〘Noun〙① One of the schools of samurai ceremonies. Its founder was Ise Musashinokami Mitsutada. Starting with Ise Sadachika, who served Ashikaga Yoshimasa and held the post of Mandokoro, successive generations of samurai instructed etiquette in the court of the Ashikaga shogunate. Around the Genroku era ( 1688-1704 ), as Ogasawara-style ceremonies became popular, this school gradually became impractical. ※Essays, Teijo Miscellaneous Notes (around 1784), vol. 1 "The etiquette passed down in my family, therefore, should actually be called Ashikaga-style, <omitted>, but it is not known as such in the world. It is called Ise-style."② = Ise Shinto (Ise Shinto) ※Ukiyo-zoshi, Genroku Taiheiki (1702), vol. 7 "Ise-style (Ise-ryu) is a pine-flooded forest."③ A school of saddle-hitting masters. It has continued for several generations since Sadanaga, the grandson of Ise Sadatsugu, a vassal of Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, learned the method of making saddle stirrups from Hatakeyama Nakatsukasa Shoyu, a disciple of Otsubo Dozen. ④ = Iseha (Ise school) ① ※ Haikai and Hairon (1764) 1 "Ise school (abbreviation) It is called Ise school in other countries and is called Ise school in the secular world because of this reason." ⑤ It is a school of gunnery. Its founder was Mori Ise no Kami Takamasa, the founder of the Saeki Mori clan. The second lord of the Sendai domain, Date Tadamune, was one of its disciples. [Glossary] (1) ① played an active role in the late Muromachi period as a tutor to the shogun's family, the general magistrate of the palace who was in charge of etiquette in the palace, and the head stable official, and was a so-called master of traditional ceremonies.
(2) Under the Tokugawa shogunate and feudal domain system, as a family of samurai descendants, they were given stipends on a par with hatamoto (samurai retainers of the Shogunate), but they remained a family that only answered questions in samurai ceremonies, and the Ise school gradually declined.
