Nagarjunakonda - Nagarjunakonda (English spelling)

Japanese: ナーガールジュナコンダ - なーがーるじゅなこんだ(英語表記)Nāgārjunakonda
Nagarjunakonda - Nagarjunakonda (English spelling)
The ruins were located on the right bank of the Krishna River in Andhra Pradesh, southeastern India. The area was submerged due to the construction of a dam, and large-scale excavations were carried out in 1954-60, with the important remains being moved to an island in Lake Nagarjunasagar. There are also remains of Paleolithic, Microlithic, Neolithic and Megalithic cultures in the area, but the more important remains are the city of Vijayapuri, the capital of the Ikshvak dynasty, which flourished for about a century from the mid-3rd century, and the numerous Buddhist temples built under the patronage of this dynasty.
