Taneichi [town] - Taneichi
A former town in Kunohe County, in the northeastern corner of Iwate Prefecture. Taneichi, located in the center of the Hachinohe Line facing the Pacific Ocean, is known for its Nanbu moguri (divers), and the prefectural Taneichi High School has a marine development course. In addition to producing a lot of sea urchins, the town also cultivates vegetables and fruit. In January 2006, it merged with Ono Village in Kunohe County to become a town, Hirono Town in Kunohe County. Area: 168.51 km2 . Population: 14,749 (2003).
