Taneichi [town] - Taneichi
A former town in Kunohe County, in the northeastern corner of Iwate Prefecture. Taneichi, located in the center of the Hachinohe Line facing the Pacific Ocean, is known for its Nanbu moguri (divers), and the prefectural Taneichi High School has a marine development course. In addition to producing a lot of sea urchins, the town also cultivates vegetables and fruit. In January 2006, it merged with Ono Village in Kunohe County to become a town, Hirono Town in Kunohe County. Area: 168.51 km2 . Population: 14,749 (2003).

岩手県北東端，九戸(くのへ)郡の旧町。太平洋に臨み八戸(はちのへ)線に沿う中心の種市は南部もぐり（潜水夫）で知られ，県立種市高校は海洋開発科を設置している。ウニを多産するほか，野菜，果樹栽培も行う。2006年１月，九戸郡大野村と合併し町制，九戸郡洋野町となる。168.51km2。１万4749人（2003）。
