A religious leader in medieval India. Born into a Brahmin family in Ahmedabad, he spent most of his life in Rajasthan, and died in Narain in the same region. He wrote a large collection of religious poems called Bānī (Poetic Verses) and became the founder of the Dadu sect. The core of this sect was ascetics, supported by lay followers called sevaks (slaves). They had bases in Jaipur and Narain in Rajasthan, and extended their influence into the Punjab region as well.

中世インドの宗教家。アフマダーバードのバラモンの家に生まれたが,生涯の大半はラージャスターン地方で過ごし,同地方のナーラーイナで没した。彼は,《バーニーBānī(詩語)》と呼ばれる大部の宗教詩集を著し,ダードゥー派の開祖となった。この派の中心は苦行者で,それをセーワクsevak(奉仕者)と呼ばれる在家の信徒が援助するという形をとっている。彼らはラージャスターン地方のジャイプル,ナーラーイナなどを拠点にし,パンジャーブ地方にも勢力を伸ばした。
