In 1962-63, it was discovered that strong X-rays are emitted from celestial bodies. Because X-rays are absorbed by the layers of air, they were first observed by rockets, later by balloons, and then by artificial satellites. Sources of X-rays are not only in our galaxy (the Milky Way), but also outside our galaxy, in distant galaxies, and in quasars near the edge of the universe, but most of the X-rays observed come from our galaxy.
