1235‐78 An Islamic mystic thinker. He is the founder of the Dasuki order, a mystical sect (tariqa). He was born in Dasuki, downstream of the Nile in Egypt, and died there. While strictly adhering to the precepts of Sunni Islam, the religious ceremonies of this sect contain elements that seem to have originated from the Coptic Church and ancient Egyptian rituals. For this reason, the sect's influence never left Egypt. [Matsumoto Kouro] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
