...The resting buds are formed asexually in the stomach cord that connects the stomach to the body wall, and can withstand dryness and low temperatures. In the case of the bryozoan Victorella pavida and the small brown bryozoan Bowerbankia caudata , winter buds are formed on the walls of the insect chamber or on the stolon roots and overwinter. The outside of the winter buds is surrounded by a thick chitin layer, and the inside contains nutrients similar to egg yolk. When the environment is suitable, they germinate and become zooids.
