Japanese: 竹富[町] - たけとみ

A town in Yaeyama District, Okinawa Prefecture. The Yaeyama Islands are made up of over 10 islands, including Iriomote, Hateruma, Taketomi, Kuroshima, and Kohama. Development of Iriomote was delayed due to malaria, but cultivation of crops from other islands progressed, and sugarcane, rice, and pineapples were cultivated. Specialties include bonito flakes from Hateruma, watermelons from Kohama, and squid from Hatoma. The town office is in Ishigaki City. There are boat services from Ishigaki City to each island. ^{334.39 km2} . 3,859 people (2010).

沖縄県八重山郡の町。八重山列島の西表(いりおもて)島，波照間(はてるま)島，竹富島，黒島，小浜島など10余島からなる。西表島はマラリア病地のため開拓が遅れたが，他島から出作耕作が行われ，開発が進みサトウキビ，米，パイナップルを栽培。波照間島のかつお節，小浜島のスイカ，鳩間島のイカなどを特産。町役場は石垣市にある。石垣市から各島へ船便がある。334.39km²。3859人（2010）。
