Takezawa Gon'emon

Japanese: 竹沢権右衛門 - たけざわ・ごんえもん

Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. A Kamigata Gidayubushi shamisen player active in the early and mid-Edo period. Said to be a disciple of Inoue Harimajo, he played shamisen alongside the first Takemoto Gidayu and contributed to the development of Gidayubushi. He is called the "founder of Joruri samisen." He later moved to the Toyotakeza Theater and is said to have been active until around 1723 (Kyoho 8). He is the founder of the Takezawa family of Gidayubushi shamisen performers, and his disciples produced the founders of the Nozawa and Tsuruzawa schools, but his style of performance and biography are not very clear. The name Gonemon was a big one, and after the first, it was often taken by others after retirement. 江戸前・中期に活躍した上方の義太夫節三味線弾き。井上播磨掾の門弟といわれ,初代竹本義太夫の相三味線を勤め義太夫節の発展に寄与した。「浄瑠璃三絃の中祖」と称される。のちに豊竹座に移って,享保8(1723)年ごろまで活躍していたらしい。義太夫節三味線方竹沢姓の祖であり,門弟からは野沢派,鶴沢派の祖が出たが,芸風や伝記はあまり明らかではない。権右衛門の名跡は大きなもので,初代以後は隠居後に名乗られることが多かった。大正期の5代まで続いたが,2代以降の系譜は不明確な点が多い。<参考文献>『義太夫年表/近世篇1』,細川景正『当流浄瑠璃三味線の人人』,4代目竹本長門太夫著・木谷蓬吟校訂『浄瑠璃大系図』(音曲叢書6巻)
