Japanese: 自家中毒 - じかちゅうどく（英語表記）autointoxication

A poisoning caused by the toxicity of products produced during the body's metabolic processes. For example, uremia and diabetic coma are caused by autointoxication. However, the term autointoxication generally refers to autotoxicosis. This is also called cyclic vomiting or acetonemia, and is a type of vomiting accompanied by an increase in acetone bodies in the blood. It is most common in children between the ages of 2 and 6. Premonitory symptoms include general fatigue, loss of appetite, headache, and abdominal pain, followed by vomiting. Sometimes vomiting begins suddenly. Vomiting can be repeated many times, and the child may even vomit bile, becoming listless, fatigued, and weak. In severe cases, the child may become lethargic. Since this condition is more likely to occur in thin, nervous children, it is thought that stress may also be a factor.

体内の新陳代謝の過程に生じる産物の毒性による中毒現象で，たとえば尿毒症，糖尿病性昏睡などは自家中毒による。しかし，一般に自家中毒といえば，自家中毒症をさす。これは周期性嘔吐症とかアセトン血性嘔吐症ともいい，血中アセトン体増加を伴う嘔吐症で，2～6歳の小児に多くみられる。前駆症状として全身倦怠，食欲不振，頭痛，腹痛などがあり，嘔吐が始る。突然，嘔吐で始ることもある。嘔吐は何回も繰返し，胆汁までも吐くようになり，無気力，倦怠，脱力状態となり，ひどい場合には，嗜眠 (しみん) 状態となる。やせた神経質な小児に起りやすいことから，ストレスの影響も考えられている。
