A former town in Kitamorokata County in the southwest of Miyazaki Prefecture. It occupies the northwest part of the Miyakonojo Basin. Livestock and dairy farming, including chicken farming, pig farming, and dairy and beef cattle farming, is thriving. Vegetables and tobacco are also produced. The Kitto Line runs through the town. In January 2006, it was incorporated into Miyakonojo City along with Yamada Town, Takajo Town, and Yamanokuchi Town of Kitamorokata County. Area: 93.19 km2 . Population: 11,575 (2003). 宮崎県南西部，北諸県(きたもろかた)郡の旧町。都城(みやこのじょう)盆地の北西部を占める。養鶏，養豚，乳牛・肉牛飼育などの畜産・酪農が盛ん。野菜，タバコも産する。吉都(きっと)線が通じる。2006年１月北諸県郡山田町，高城町，山之口町と都城市へ編入。93.19km2。１万1575人（2003）。
