Lennon - Renon (English spelling) John Lennon

English rock singer, guitarist, and composer. Born in Liverpool. As a port city, Liverpool has a culture of loving new things, and he became interested in rhythm and blues. He formed The Quarry Men with his friends while attending Quarry Bank High School. Eventually, Paul McCartney (1942-) and George Harrison (1943-2001) joined the group. After going through several group names, they became known as The Beatles in 1960. In 1962, the group became a four-piece consisting of Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, and Ringo Starr (1940-), and released their debut single "Love Me Do" in the autumn of the same year, which became their first hit. In 1964, songs such as "I Want to Hold Your Hand" became big hits in the United States, and the worldwide Beatles boom began.

John married Cynthia Powell in 1962 (their son Julian was born the following year), but in 1966 he met avant-garde artist Yoko Ono (1933-), and after divorcing Cynthia in 1968, he remarried Yoko the following year in 1969. The couple resonated with the anti-Vietnam War movement and began a peace campaign. The Beatles broke up in 1970. The couple moved to New York in 1971, where John wrote a series of songs calling for love and peace. His most famous work is the 1971 hit "Imagine." In 1975, he returned to his musical roots with the release of the album "Rock 'n' Roll," and then took a break from his activities. It was likely in search of a new goal. He resumed his activities in 1980, full of enthusiasm and energy. However, on December 8, 1980, while "Starting Over" was a hit, he was shot and killed by a delirious fan. John's music, which he loved for its realistic lyrics and beautiful melodies, is still loved by many people today. In Japan, the world's first "John Lennon Museum" (Chuo-ku, Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture) opened in 2000 (Heisei 12) on October 9th, John's birthday.

イギリスのロック歌手、ギター奏者、作曲家。リバプール生まれ。港湾都市であるリバプールには新しいものを好む気風があり、彼はリズム・アンド・ブルースに興味をもち、地元のクォリー・バンク高校時代に友人たちとクォリーメンThe Quarry Menを結成。やがてポール・マッカートニーPaul McCartney（1942―　）、ジョージ・ハリソンGeorge Harrison（1943―2001）らが加入する。いくつかのグループ名を経て、1960年にビートルズと称する。62年にレノン、マッカートニー、ハリソン、リンゴ・スターRingo Starr（1940―　）の4人組となり、同年秋にデビュー・シングル『ラブ・ミー・ドゥ』を発売し、初のヒットとなる。64年、アメリカで『抱きしめたい』などが大ヒットして、世界的なビートルズ・ブームが始まる。

　ジョンは1962年にシンシア・パウエルと結婚したが（翌年息子ジュリアン誕生）、66年に前衛芸術家のヨーコ・オノ（小野洋子、1933―　）と出会い、68年シンシアと離婚後、翌69年に洋子と再婚した。夫妻はベトナム反戦運動に共鳴し平和キャンペーンを始める。70年ビートルズ解散。夫妻は71年ニューヨークに移住。そこでジョンは愛と平和を訴える歌曲を次々と書いた。71年のヒット『イマジン』はその代表作である。75年、自身の音楽的原点に立ち戻ったアルバム『ロックン・ロール』の発表を最後に活動を休止する。新しい目標を求めてのことであろう。80年に意欲と活力に満ちて活動再開。だが『スターティング・オーバー』がヒットするなかの80年12月8日、錯乱したファンに射殺される。リアルな詞と美しいメロディを好んだジョンの音楽は、いまなお多くの人々に愛され続けている。日本では2000年（平成12）、ジョンの誕生日である10月9日に世界初の「ジョン・レノン・ミュージアム」（埼玉県さいたま市中央区）が開館した。
