Tufted deer (Maegami deer)

Japanese: マエガミジカ(前髪鹿) - マエガミジカ(英語表記)tufted deer
Tufted deer (Maegami deer)
A small, even-toed mammal of the Cervidae family (illustration) with very short horns measuring 1-3 cm in length. It resembles a muntjac, but its horns are branchless, and as its name suggests, the hair on the male's forehead grows to about 17 cm long, forming a horseshoe-shaped black crest. The crest covers the horns. Males have long tusks (canines) on their upper jaw. The hair is hard and coarse, almost like thorns. The body is dark brown to dark gray. Some individuals have marbled white spots on the front half of their body. Body length is 110-160 cm, shoulder height is 52-72 cm, tail length is 7-15 cm, and weight is 40-50 kg. It is found in southern China, Tibet, and Myanmar.
